It is here…Earth Week. The one week out of the year that our well educated young children justifiably criticize us “older” generations. I know mine are always educating me on what we can do. I love it.

Our purpose at Wallnutz is to make fun and intriguing spaces for children inside your home and now outside. Here are some of the changes that we as a company have made in the last year to help keep outside beautiful:

1. We re-use boxes.

All of the wall decor products that we sell, whether pre-manufactured or materials that we manufacture, come to us in a box…..inside a bigger box. About a year ago we finally gave up on our idea that our orders had to be shipped in brand spanking new boxes and started to use these inside boxes to ship orders. A few of you may have noticed, but the inside boxes are in such pristine condition that quite honestly it would be hard to tell. It has drastically reduced the amount of recycling we have each week (an amount that would make any lovely tree hugger cringe) and frankly makes us feel better. We re-use all of the boxes but it still only accounts for a small percentage of our shipments.

BONUS: We only charge our customers actual shipping cost and re-using boxes helps reduce shipping cost which we pass onto our customers! Shipping has gotten so expensive in the last year we try to do everything we can to keep it down for you.

*We also re-use packing paper. Some of our vendors are wallpaper manufactures so a very few of you might have enjoyed the free wallpaper used as packing material that came with your modern wall decor.

2. Electronic Paperwork.

We no longer print  receipts, purchase orders, invoices, articles and bills but instead store them as needly organized computer files. We have asked all of our vendors to help us out with. This one was a little tough for me. As techno savvy as I have become I still carry a date book and am comforted by a messing paper filled desk. Although, I do admit not having the paper cutter saves time, storage, cost and will give our printer a nice long life while saving a couple of beautiful trees.

3. Encourage our Customers to Re-use and then Re-cycle.

Once you peel the wall decal off the backing material, everything else we have sent you can be re-used and then re-cycled. Use the box and packing material for your next shipment. Let the kids have fun making big artwork on the backing material or a long welcome/congratulations poster with the packing paper or huge paper sheets from the mural painting kits. The cardboard tubes and thick plastics bags from the mural kits make great storage devices.

4. Offer an Organic Option for Kids Room Decor

If you are looking for an organic decor option for your nursery or child’s room, we can help. You can choose organic paint to use with any of our mural painting kits. There are lots of new options out there for organic odor-free paints!

These environmental practices were new to us this year. Do you have any suggestions for us for this year? We would love to hear them!

Picking out new products is definitely my favorite part of running Wallnutz. Accounting not so much. I get completely giddy when I find something new I love and know that you will love it too. We have such a huge collection of wall décor that I thought I would share a few of my personal favorite finds. These are not the best sellers, but simply things that I had to have for you (and me.)

Rococo Chalkboard Wall Decal

I have this decal in my home office right between my desk and a comfy brown velvet thinking couch. My kids leave me lovely notes all the time and I like to add my current favorite quote. Often one I really think my family should hear.

Note to my dear friends, family and kid’s teachers: you will be getting one as a gift (if you haven’t already)….everyone does. The Rococo Chalkboard is the perfect gift for someone who has everything!

Feather Wallpaper

I am bound and determined to get this up in my entry this month. I fell in love with this wallpaper the second I saw it. It’s all ready to go…just needs a few extra minutes in a weekend. I will post it for you when we’re done!

The FERM-Living wallpapers and wall stickers were added early last year. They are the perfect combination of beautiful, fun and a bit of just enough edgy.

Date with a Decal Wall Planners

This is required to be a favorite. It was designed and developed to meet my own family’s needs. We needed a place for a family of six to just down all the schedules and notes. Everything I found was somewhat functional but not something that I wanted in a visible area. So together with my friend, who is a fabulous graphic designer, and I came up with a decal two month calendar with unique functions for both the family and the office (like the cool date circle decals.) Most importantly it has a great stylish design that you can proudly display in any room!

Deerly Beloved and Nightly News Wall Stickers

For the young ones this provides sweet animals that give them a feeling of comforting friends in the room. For the parents they provide a hip and stylish design option to Winnie the Pooh and Dora (sorry I know they were favorites of the past.) I really wish I had this when my girls were younger. There is so much adorable personality in these cute little foes! Absolutely Adorable.

Barcode Wall Stickers

This wall sticker is a perfect way to add a very unique interest to any space. The kind of subtle interest that will make your guest do a double take and then smile!

Fireplace Chalkboard Wall Sticker

This is just plain clever! It’s perfect for adding coziness to a small room. I can see this design adding so much personality to a bedroom, dorm, apartment or office waiting room.

Okay, now what are some of your favorites at Wallnutz?

We would love to see some comments from each of you!

Thanks for reading!

Today was a rare occasion; I got to stroll around some decor blogs.

It reminded me of how much I used to love looking for inspiration in decor magazines, books and blogs. I loved finding that perfect picture or decorating idea and saying to myself, “now, that is me.” I am not artistic myself, but good at finding what I like. I would take that fabulous look and …..someday incorporate it into my space.

Then the same thing happened to me that happens to most women when they grow-up. I share this home with a man who loves status quo décor. I do not have that absolutely unique house I dreamed of (suburbia works for us.) My time is spent running and caring for this company, our home and the four offspring that live in it. While I love all of the above mentioned, my décor inspiration has been temporary off somewhere.

It’s time to go back to basics, my loyal black book.

When I was young and got my first apartment I had no idea what I liked and what style defined me. I was buying things right and left forming a random collection “temporary” of things in a room. Nothing fit. So I started a décor journal. I bought a big black book and when I saw something I absolutely loved I cut it out and posted it. Over the years styles have changed and so have I, but if you look through my book you will still see me and the definition of my style. (Also, keeps me focused when shopping.)

As parents and/or business owners our passions get temporarily set aside for busy family schedules and bottom lines. My passion is decor with simple ways to make your home unique to you and it’s time to rekindle!

Over the next few days Parrish (the amazing design artist and article writer for this blog) and I will be reinventing the look of this Blog. You will also start to see my most recent clippings of inspiration, new stimulating products and continue to find articles of great simple décor ideas.
