Tropical Beach
Room Plan
Keep
the sun shining year-round in your little one’s room by
decrating with a beach theme!
Wall
Color
First, paint the walls with a light blue or light yellow semi-gloss
latex. You can even paint the ceiling the same color
and add some clouds. Allow the walls and paint to dry
at least overnight, preferrably for 24 hours or more, until
the paint no longer feels tacky.
To
create clouds, dampen a sponge and dip in white paint diluted with water or mixed with glaze found in the paint section of a home improvement store.
Dab on the wall with a quick pressing motion until you have
a small cloud shape. It’s better to start small, then
take a step back and decide if you want to add more.
Then
use the Tropical Mural kit or Sandcastle
Mural kit from WallNutz to paint a fun,
sunny mural. Use the Beach
Toys Mini Mural to place accents around the closet doors
or as a border around the room.
Window
Treatments
Buy white cotton fabric the store. Hem the raw ends
of the fabric. Then drape the fabric over curtain rods,
tying corners onto rod with 1” blue ribbon, allowing middle
of fabric to drape down. You can also use a flat twin
sheet in place of fabric, which is handy because the sheet
edges are already hemmed.
Or visit a party supplies store and find grass skirts to use as valances. Use a hot glue gun to attach to a curtain rod, add silk flowers and trim to desired length.
Finishing
Touches
Add hand painted knobs to closet doors or on dresser drawers to
match the color scheme and theme of the room. You can find knobs
that match the WallNutz murals in our online
store.
Find a small fishing net from a sporting goods store and tack
the four corners to the ceiling and wall. Make sure
the net is out of the reach of young children. Place
starfish and lightweight shells inside the netting.
Place
smooth seashells (large enough to not pose a choking hazard)
on a dresser or bookshelf. Children will love to examine
them and listen for the ocean.
Find
an old calendar with pictures of the sea. Cut out the
pictures and place in inexpensive frames from a craft store.
Hang on the walls or set on decorative shelves.
