Wooden
Letters Project
Handpainted
wooden letters are a fun and inexpensive way to accessorize a
child's room or give as a special gift.
Materials:
Wooden letters, any size
Kilz primer, water based
Acrylic craft paint
Clear sealant such as Minwax Polycrylic
Unfinished wooden letters can be found at craft supply stores
and Target.
1. Place the letter on a newspaper covered surface and paint the
front and sides with a water based primer such as Kilz.
2. Once primer is completely dry, paint letter front and sides
in a solid color with acrylic craft paint. Allow to dry.
3. Paint letters with patterns. Ideas are stars, polkadots, dip
a damp sponge in paint for a sponged effect, tape off areas and
create stripes.
4. Once painted pattern is dry, brush on the clear sealant to
protect the artwork. One coat should be sufficient if you do not
plan to constantly handle the letters.
5. Hang the letters on a wall using many pieces of Tac per letters,
or drill a small hole large enough for a nail head in the back
of the letter. Be careful not to go all the way through the wood
when drilling.
Another way to display your hand-painted artwork is to place the
letters leaning along a chair rail or on a dresser top.
Happy painting!
