Painted
Picture Frame Project
Handpainted
picture frames are easy to make and are great for accessorizing
a child's room to display favorite people or children's artwork.
They also make great grandparent or teacher gifts!
Materials:
Wooden picture frame, any size
Kilz primer, water based
Acrylic craft paint
Clear sealant such as Minwax Polycrylic
Wooden frames can be found at craft supply stores, Walmart, Target
or even at the Dollar Tree.
1. Place the frame on a newspaper covered surface. Cover the glass
with low tack masking tape, leaving the wooden frame exposed.
2. Paint the front and sides of the frame with a water based primer
such as Kilz.
3 . Once primer is completely dry, paint the frame front and sides
in a solid color with acrylic craft paint. Allow to dry.
4 . Paint the frame with patterns. Ideas are stars, polkadots,
dip a damp sponge in paint for a sponged effect, tape off areas
and create stripes. You can use metallic or glitter acrylic craft
paints for even more effect.
5. (Optional) Using a hot glue gun or regular craft glue, attach
objects like buttons, sea shells, wooden shapes or beads.
6. Once painted pattern and/or craft glue is dry, brush on the
clear sealant to protect the artwork. One coat should be sufficient
if you do not plan to constantly handle the letters.
7 . Remove low tack tape from glass and insert artwork into frame.
Enjoy!
