Paint-By-Number Mural Kits
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I have no artistic ability.  Is it really true that these kits are easy?
WallNutz mural kits are designed so that anyone can use them, even if you don't have an ounce of creativity.  All you have to be able to do is hang the pattern and transfer paper, trace over the design and follow the numbers and stay in the lines to paint in the correct color.  To see the process, click here.

Where can I find the right type of paints? Paints
All craft stores carry acrylic craft paints that are used for the designs.  Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Ben Franklin are some craft stores that are probably in your area.  Walmart also carries a selection of these paints.  We recommend using a semi-gloss paint for the background, and this paint can be found at paint and wallpaper or  home improvement stores. See note below regarding Behr brand paint.

Do the kits work with any type of base paint as the background?
PLEASE NOTE: We do NOT recommend using Behr brand paint for your background, usually sold at Home Depot. In some instances, the transfer paper will leave a very faint or no line when used with this brand.

We recommend using an eggshell, satin or semi-gloss indoor latex paint for the background, because any smudges from the transfer paper will wipe right off with a damp cloth.  You can use a flat paint, however, transfer paper smudges will stay on the paint and you will need to touch up the smudges with more of the background paint.

The transferred line is a dark blue. Patterns work best on a lighter colored background for viewing of the transferred pattern and will not show up on dark blue, green or black backgrounds. You can first transfer the image on to a light wall color, then paint in a darker background around the outline if you wish.

Can I use the pattern more than once?
The mural kits can generally be retraced two to three times, sometime more if the wall surface is flat. The less wear and tear on the papers, the longer they will last.

What if the mural size doesn't fit my walls?
It is really simple to change the size of WallNutz murals.  To make them fit a larger area, simply re-position a piece of the transfer paper and pattern so that it meshes well with the original pattern and retrace.  To make the pattern fit a smaller area, simply omit tracing a portion of the design.  You can also place the pattern on two walls of a room by simply wrapping the pattern into the corner of two walls.  Another idea is to cut out pieces of the pattern and place them in different areas of the room.  View our Photo Gallery to see some of these solutions.

How long will it take me to complete the project?
This depends on the complexity of the design, how quickly you paint and how many interruptions you have.  Most of the full wall murals can be easily finished in a weekend, if the room is already prepped and the background color is completely dry.

Should I protect the mural with some type of sealant once it's painted?
It depends on the use of the room.  We recommend that you use a clear sealant available at most craft stores to protect murals in children's rooms where it is likely that little hands will leave prints all over your work of art.

Do you have other designs available?
We are always working on new designs, however, the kits you see on the website are the only ones available at this time.  We certainly welcome suggestions for topics and will put your suggestion on our "to do" list.

Do you offer any licensed characters like Peter Rabbit or Classic Pooh?
WallNutz does not carry any mural kits using licensed characters at this time.

How much will this project cost in total?
We estimate that you can complete an entire wall mural for less than $60, not including the background color and shipping and handling on the kit.  Broken down, this estimate covers the kit cost ($34.99), paints ($20.00) and brushes ($5.00).

Are there stores where I can buy the kits?
Click here to see a listing of retailers who carry WallNutz products. Please note, retailers choose their own selections, and may not offer all available designs.

Do you have catalogs available?
We do not have print catalogs available at this time. All designs that we offer are shown on the website in our online shopping area.
